1 – Somerset Wine & Cider Bar

Somerset Wine & Cider Bar is owned by a husband-and-wife team and is open between May and September. During these months, their Tasting Room is open from Wednesday to Sunday.

They serve 12 varieties of wine, Marquette, Crimson Cabernet, Chambourcin, Cabernet Franc, Norton, Viognier, Traminette, Melody, La Crescent, Chardonel, and Chardonnay. They also serve alcoholic ciders.

They often have live music for you to enjoy while you are sipping your wine. 

Join their wine club for 6 bottles quarterly, 10% off all wines, invitations to member-only tasting events, and more.

2 – TerraVox Winery

This winery focuses on American Heritage grapes and on dry wines although they do have a couple of dessert wines as well. The grapes to produce their wines are all grown on their estate. 

You must make an appointment to visit the winery for a tasting. You can order flights, glasses of wine, and bottles. 

They will rent their space for special events like weddings and corporate events.

Try their 2021 Wetumka white wine which is not too dry but, at the same time, not too sweet. It has pineapple and lemon verbena aromas.

The red wine, the 2020 Lenoir, has distinctive herbal aromas and flavors as well as tastes of dark fruits such as blackberries and blackcurrants. The dessert wine, Wetumka Report has hints of pawpaw and cantaloupe, with a rich and warm finish.

Apart from red and white wine, they also produce rose, sparkling wine, sangria, fruit wines, and dessert wines. Try their rose which has watermelon, strawberry, and guava on the palate, with bright acidity and a dry finish. It pairs well with seafood and salads. 

Usually, people buy a 750 ml bottle of wine but Cooper’s Hawk Winery also stocks wines in magnums, double magnums, imperials, and salamanders. If you are having a big party, these are ideal.

Cooper’s Hawk also has a restaurant that serves excellent food.

4 – Fountain City Winery

This winery is run by a husband-and-wife team and as well as wine, they serve beer and cocktails. They are open from Thursday to Sunday and have live music on Fridays as well as quiz competitions. 

Fountain City Winery is in its early days and plans to open a wine club soon.

5 – KC Wineworks

KC Wineworks is suitable if you want to host an event as there is room for up to 50 people. 

They have a good selection of wines and are the first wine-based cocktail bar in Kansas City. They are open for tastings and wine by the glass or bottle from Thursday to Sunday.

Try their Chambourcin Mill Rock Bottle, a single-vineyard, medium-bodied red wine. It has aromas of cherries and a hint of tobacco, with flavors of raisins and earth. It pairs well with pork, duck, and salmon.

The winery also sells charcuterie boards to accompany your wine. 

6 – Amigoni Urban Winery

Amigoni Urban Winery offers tastings and wine experiences. If you have the time to have more than a flight of wine, book an experience such as the Cellar Experience. During this, they will tell you how the wine is produced, and you can even make your own blend of wine. 

Tastings include 5 preselected wines which change weekly so you can visit more than once and get different wines. You have the option of adding more wines to taste and you can also order by the glass or bottle.

If you decide to buy a bottle of wine, they offer a discount. If there is someone in your party who isn’t keen on wine, Amigoni Urban Winery also serves beer. 

You can order food to accompany your wine. They serve shareable plates such as a meat and cheese platter, homemade fries, and fresh bread with olive oil.

The 6 Brest Wineries Near Kansas City

1 – Stonehaus Farms Winery 

This is one of the oldest wineries in the area, having been founded in 1996. It is family-owned and operated. 

All of their wines are available for tasting and purchase. Try their Albacore, a white aperitif dessert wine that has notes of apricot and plum. Their Cynthian has hints of cherry and pecan and is a full-bodied red wine.

Their Vivant, a dry white wine, is cold-fermented, giving a lovely buttery texture to the wine. 

The winery will hold special events such as weddings. 

2 – Jowler Creek Vineyard & Winery

Jowler Creek is owned by Jason and Kit Lacey. Their winery is the first green winery in Missouri so is a great place to go if you are concerned about the environment. 

The vineyard covers 7 acres, and they have an indoor tasting room as well as a beautiful garden where you can enjoy your wine in the good weather. 

They sell wine by the glass or the bottle. They also serve beer and non-alcoholic beverages. They offer gourmet cheese plates, locally produced meat, and freshly baked bread to accompany your drinks.

They are open from Thursday to Sunday. 

Jowler Creek Vineyard & Winery will host weddings and other special events so get in touch with them if you want to hire their space.

3 – Ladoga Ridge Winery

This is a family-owned and operated winery. They offer wine tastings daily throughout the year and you can also order wine by the glass or bottle. You can get wine slushies here which are delicious on a hot summer’s day. 

They offer red and white wine as well as fruit wines and seasonal wines. Try their Strawberry & Rhubarb fruit wine which is sweet with a tart finish. Their Chocoberry Kiss is a cherry wine with flavors of both cherry and chocolate. 

They offer 4 rental options for special events for between 20 and 100 guests.

4 – Mallinson Vineyard & Hall 

Mallinson Vineyard and Hall is in a beautiful location next to the River Boulevard. Walk-in wine tastings are available from Friday to Sunday. 

Try their Citrine, a fragrant sweet white wine, or Defiance, a sweet red wine with enough tannins to assure you that it is a quality wine. 

They have two houses for rent, Norton House which sleeps up to 8 people while Ravishing House sleeps 13. They are very luxurious and a lovely place to treat yourself to a break.

Mallinson Vineyard and Hall will host events such as weddings. Their inside space will hold 150 people while the outside will hold up to 200.

5 – Top Hat Winery

Top Hat Winery is family-owned and has over 60 wines on offer, as well as 20 alcoholic ciders. They also serve food, such as barbecued pulled pork in a toasted bun, The Big Bird, a ½ lb. slow-smoked turkey in a toasted bun, wings, and pizza. 

Try their Little Buddy, made from the versatile white grape, Vignoles. It has a lovely floral aroma and fruity flavors such as citrus, pineapple, and apricot. It is like German Riesling.

Try their Norton red wine, which is full-bodied and dry. It has an aroma of violet and spicy earth and rich dark fruit flavors such as blackberries and blackcurrants, with a lightly tannic finish,
