Some have their own vineyards outside the state, while others import wines from other vineyards either in the country or internationally.

Decant Urban Winery

Decant Urban Winery sources its grapes from all over the US. The wines are hand-crafted in small batches meaning that they reflect the climate, location, passion, and care of the grape producers. They use Old World winemaking techniques such as using wild and ambient yeast during the fermentation process. 

Decant Urban Winery offers a different wine-tasting experience. You can enjoy your wine while watching how they make the wine, from crushing the grapes to bottling the wine. Your server is likely someone who has been involved in the winemaking process. All the staff are passionate about wine and will answer any questions you have. 

Join one of their wine clubs to get early access to new wines. If you join their top club, the Founders Club, you will also get a free bottle of every wine they produce. 

AWI Winery of Texas

AWI Winery of Texas has a vineyard in the Uco Valley in Argentina. It produces three red varietals, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon, and one grape varietal, Viognier. With these, they produce red, white, and rose wines. Their rose wines are created from the bleeding of Malbec grapes. They age their wines in oak barrels for up to 14 months which varies the color, flavor, tannin profile, and texture of the wine. 

In 2021 AWI Winery of Texas received recognition as the best winery in Houston.

Pur Noire Wines

Pur Noire Wines began by selling other brands of wine but later decided to produce their own brand and now have an excellent selection of high-quality wines. 

The tasting room is relaxing and you will be made to feel at home. The staff are all knowledgeable about the wines and will be happy to tell you more about the winery and the wines. If you aren’t used to wine, you will be presented with a selection that isn’t too bold but if you are a regular wine drinker, you will be presented with a more extensive variety of tastings. 

On Friday evenings, Pur Noire Wines presents Notes of Noire which is a wine and live music pairing.

Try their 2020 Limited Selection Merlot from the Broken Rock Vineyard in the Napa Valley. It has notes of black cherry, plum, and blackberry with a hint of vanilla. The finish is a hint of dark chocolate.  

Sable Gate Winery

Sable Gate Winery buys grapes both from their neighborhood and from all around the world. They produce over 50 varietals of wine including Merlot, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Petit Verdot. 

They produce red, white, rose, sparkling, and dessert wines. Try their unusual but delicious almond sparkling wine which is a classic Brut made with almond essence and French Columbard grapes. It is a fruit-forward wine made using the traditional Champagne method. The almond essence gives it a delicious taste of marzipan. 

Tastings include either a sweet or a dry flight and there is a choice of five or seven pours. If you aren’t sure what wine you want, the servers will suggest wines according to your tastes. You can pair the wine with a charcuterie board or a pizza.

Nice Winery

Nice Winery supplies many restaurants in Houston and they have won numerous awards over the years. You can be guaranteed decent wine and, best of all, the prices are reasonable. 

They are interested in pairing their wines with food and have chefs on site to provide you with delicacies to accompany your wine. A tasting involves six wines with six chef-crafted accompaniments. You will also be taken on a tour of the winery to learn how they make the wine. The staff are knowledgeable and will answer all your questions. You can also take a Guided Wine Class Experience.

Serca Wines

Serca Wines have vineyards in the Uco Valley, Argentina. A variety of grapes are grown including Malbec, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are hand harvested and then checked again when they arrive at the winery to ensure that they use the best fruits to make their wines. 

Try the 2018 Malbec Reserva which is ruby red in color with violet hues. On the nose, you have dark fruits including blackberries with a touch of black pepper. The flavor reminds you of ripe plums. It is a medium-bodied red wine with soft tannins. 

You can enjoy a tasting either in their tasting room inside or on their rooftop space.

Infuse Wine Bar

Infuse Wine Bar is exciting and different. They have a selection of wines, and you can infuse your drink with flavors of your choice including fruits, herbs, and sweeteners. Try a red blend with strawberry or passion fruit or a white wine with lemon, apricot, or mint.

They also host at-home infusion parties where a host will infuse your wine with any of over 20 flavors and entertain you.

French Country Wines

French Country Wines imports wines from 8 different French regions including the Loire Valley and Alsace, giving you a taste of the Old World. They specialize in importing wines from small family-owned and artisanal wineries. As well as selling their wines, they supply many restaurants in Houston and the rest of Texas. They offer wines to suit all pockets. However, one thing you can be assured of is that they are all high-quality. 

They have tastings every Saturday from 12 pm to 5 pm which is complementary and offers six pours.

Vinture Wine

Vinture Wine is unique in that they only deliver in Texas. They offer complimentary delivery for 12 bottles or more in Houston. 

They have a wide selection of wines including reds, whites, rose, sparkling, and sherry. They only sell wines produced at small wineries. Try their Cava Bolet Brut Nature. Its first fermentation is in stainless steel tanks for 15 days and then the second fermentation is for 12 months in the bottle in racks. It is fruity and well-balanced with refreshing acidity and a round finish. 

Reata Cellars

If you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere, Reata Cellars fits the bill. Here you can enjoy a glass of wine in a comfortable area surrounded by amazing artwork. The art will be just as much a talking point as the wine. Reata Cellars is very popular so be prepared to wait for a table.

They often hold special events when wine experts come to share their knowledge about wines. Book early as they get full quickly.

DuVin Pintar & Art Gallery 

This is another establishment that combines wine with paintings as well as music. The ambiance is perfect. Soft jazz plays and the lights are low. Beautiful artwork is on show and you can purchase pieces to take home.

The wines served here are excellent. They have nine different varieties to choose from. Try the Domaine du Bouscat-Caduce. It is a spectacular ruby color with a sophisticated nose of red and black fruits and rose potpourri. The flavors remind you of black cherry and black pepper with a strong finish. It is full-bodied with strong tannins. 

You have the opportunity to become a member and can then enjoy complimentary wine with a cheese tray, discounts, a Wi-Fi meeting space, a complimentary event each year, and monthly members-only wine tastings. 

TutiLili Wines and Specialty Foods

TutiLili Wines and Specialty Foods focuses on both wine and food. As well as selling wine, they offer artisan foods such as truffle products, charcuterie, olive oil, and balsamic vinegar. 

Their wines are imported directly from a carefully selected list of producers, and they are all Italian varietals. Try their Pinot Grigio DOC Friuli-ambr. It is an amber-colored wine derived from the maceration of the skins of the grapes. The nose is rose and glycerin while the flavors remind you of peach, papaya, and citrus. It has a clean finish. They offer red, white, rose, sparkling, and dessert wines. 

Vesper Wine

Vesper Wines is family owned and is open exclusively to members. You are made to feel special at tastings. An expert will guide you through the wines, recommend food pairings, and will answer your questions. You might even meet the owner, who is a sommelier. He will be able to share his knowledge with you. The tasting involves three pours.

Their wines are high quality. Try the Aslina Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 which is a full-bodied wine with hints of mint, cigars, and dark fruits such as blackberries and blackcurrants. It is bold and has chewy tannins.
