Christmas With Chateau Ballan Larquette – Special Offer

We promised that we woud be significantly reducing some of your favourite wines as a special thank you for all your support this year and we have slashed our popular selection of wines from Chateau Ballan Larquette to £7.64 a bottle.  Ballan Larquette produce the complete range of traditional Bordelaise wine from their flagship Claret to sophisticated Bordeaux Rosé and their historical Bordeaux Clairet.

Chateau Ballan Larquette lies  in the little village of St Laurent du Bois (St Lawrence in the Woods) in the Entre Deux Mers. Rather aptly, St Laurent du Bois is named for St Lawrence, one of the Patron Saints of Vine Growers and Wine Making.

The area has been a cradle for vineyards since the Middle Ages and is dotted with ancient churches and Knight’s Templar Commanderies.  The villages lie near the old Abbeys whose Benedictine monks made wine for communion centuries ago. The great Landes Forest lies to the south west and the area around St Laurent du Bois was once a privileged territory for hunting – and fishing (lamprey is a speciality of the region).

The chateau lies in Lieu Dit of Larquette – a ‘Lieu Dit’ is an old French term for a small vineyard that bears a traditional name – you normally hear of them in Burgundy or Alsace. In this case the vineyard is Larquette, which may originate from L’Arquette – the French word for the Archer or Bowman (rather fitting considering that it was once part of an old hunting ground).

Ballan Larquette is owned by the Chaigne family – who have been wine makers for six generations.  Regis Chaigne heads the current generation in charge of Chateau Ballan Larquette and is passionate about producing award winning, classic, time honoured wines with the elegant precision that modern wine making techniques bring with them.

Their  wines are award winning across the board and have gathered many fans here across the Channel, including wine critics from the Guardian, Observor and The Lady.

Chateau Ballan Larquette 2008 – A lovely Claret wine with dark firm blackcurrant flavours and good earthy undertones as well as complex notes of black cherry, crushed black pepper, mint and blueberry.

Chateau Ballan Larquette Bordeaux Clairet 2010 – This really is a beautiful presentation of a Bordeaux Clairet. Lusciously intense and mouth watering with flavours of crushed strawberry, mango, pineapple, pomegranate and redcurrant.

Chateau Ballan Larquette Bordeaux Rose 2010 – A sophisticated medium bodied rose with good refreshing acidity whilst being rounded, smooth and supple in the mouth. With notes of earthy ripe strawberry, red cherry, orange zest, sweet herbs and spice.
