Chateau Chevalier d’Albran 2009 is made by Chateau Mondain in the tiny hamlet of Juillac, close to Castillon La Bataille. This is a lovely Claret that has great aromas of cassis (blackberry liqueur), toasty oak and pencil box with dark fruits, vanilla and a hint of bell peppers in the mouth.
It is the ideal partner for lamb, pork and beef, charcuterie (grilled meats), spare ribs – try it with Asian dishes based on Hoisin sauce or Char Siu barbequed pork. The wine is smooth and elegant and you’ll find its deep flavours really enhance the meal.
Chateau Grand Rousseau 2010 is owned by the renowned Lumeau family who have been wine makers since 1840. The chateau lies near the bastide town of Sauveterre de Guyenne. Rounded and supple, this is a very well balanced wine with integrated tannins. It has a good, classical bouquet and notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, tobacco, earth and vanilla in the mouth.
It is good with game such as venison, duck, pigeon and pheasant and will also pair well with roast beef and hard cheeses.
